Five hundred years ago, an evil old sorcerer named Shang Tsung messed up an old and respected Shaolin fighting competition that happened every fifty years. Shang was with Prince Goro, a fighter of the Shokan race who is a four-armed mix of human and dragon. Shang knew that if the Outworld champion won ten tournaments in a row, evil would take over the Earth Realm and make it dark, so he put Goro in the game and had him beat the great Kung Lao.
In the history of fighting, Goro has been the undisputed king for five hundred years. As the last contest gets closer, Raiden, the Thunder God and guardian of the Earth Realm, makes a plan to help the humans win. On Shang Tsung’s secret island, there are seven fighters: the Shaolin warrior Liu Kang, the Special Forces agent Sonya Blade, the mercenary thug Kano, the actor Johnny Cage who wants to be famous, the Lin Kuei warrior Sub-Zero and his undead opponent Scorpion, and Raiden himself.
