During the day, the player can explore the world and find supplies in a number of spots spread out across each biome. They can also use this time to fix any doors or barricades around the hideout and use the workbench to make new things and upgrades. During the day, the player can also “cook” hallucinogens on his stove to get access to different skills. For every good skill they choose, they have to pick a bad skill as well. The player is locked in the hideout at night and can’t leave until morning. They have to protect it from any possible attackers. It’s important to plan a defense strategy, and players can set traps and block doors or windows to slow down any attackers.

If the player makes it through the night, they will gain the trader’s respect, which can be used to get more expensive things. No reputation will be given to the player if they die during the night. They will wake up the next morning without any. It’s possible for a player to die while scavenging and lose half of their goods. This is marked on the map so that the player can find it later. Bad things that happen when you die are more severe and can include losing your life or dying for good.
